Daniel, one of our blogging students, is very close with his niece. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, their relationship has become even stronger and more important to him. “I just want to protect her. Keep her safe,” Daniel says. Not seeing friends right now is hard for Daniel, but seeing his niece makes things a lot better. They video chat every day. Just talking, laughing and blowing kisses can make the day seem a little brighter. They haven’t seen each other in person since right before the pandemic, but staying connected is helping them get through the tough times. Close relationships like Daniel and his niece are even more important these days, when we have limited contact with others. Family and close friends can luckily stay in touch via technology. Especially for those of us at greater risk, the isolation can be difficult. So don’t forget to reach out to those who are most important to you.
